We are called to “love” and be devoted to kindness. To love kindness (hesed) is to make it a priority, to live committed to kindness, and to act from it fully.

When Jesus says do not judge, he isn't telling us to be bystanders in the face of injustice or abuse. We are called to discern right from wrong and stand up against injustice.

When Jesus says, “Do not treasure up treasures,” he refers to the desire to acquire and accumulate and tells us to watch out for the unquenchable desire for MORE possessions or wealth.

Prayer is something we learn by doing. With the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus models the kind of simple, private prayer he recommends with practice.

Creative Resistance- Jesus teaches us to respond to our adversaries, not with passivity and retaliation, but with creative, active resistance.

Jesus never commands us not to be angry. Instead, he warns us of the danger of lingering in anger.
