Advent Art Workshop
Sunday, November 24, 10:15 am
The word Himmeli has German and Swedish roots—emerging from the
word for “sky” or “heaven” in each. Its use in the Finnish language has
no translation. It is originating from the Swedish word for sky or heaven.
Himmeli is a traditional Finnish ornament made from straw or reeds. It is
typically suspended above the dinner table during the holiday season to
symbolize Order and a Harmonious Universe. They positively influence
their surroundings and people around them, and through their shape, a
himmeli expresses the concept of light being reborn.
On Sunday, November 24, we will gather during the small group hour,
10:15 -11 am, in the Fellowship Hall for a simple workshop to show
you how to make these ornaments. All the supplies will be provided, so
please join us in the fun. We will use these on our Christmas trees this
Advent season in our worship spaces and hopefully in your home. For
