Ed Rollins has served First Baptist Church as Associate Pastor for Music and Administration since June 1, 1988. Basically this means that Ed leads music and gets to deal with roofs and toilets. He grew up in a very similar church in Silver Spring, Maryland, and felt right at home the moment he entered into ministry here in Columbia…most likely because the folk here at First make you feel like you’re right at home!
Ed has a BS in Church Music from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, and an MCM from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He is the co-founder and current conductor of the nationally acclaimed Columbia Handbell Ensemble, and acts as Executive Director for First’s Odyssey Chamber Music Series. In addition, he is currently serving as President-elect of the Handbell Musicians of America.
Ed claims a special place in his heart for the corporate worship of God and enjoys the opportunity to mix all kinds of musical styles into our times of worship. You might hear renaissance music or gospel music, handbells and brass or piano and flute, jazz or a requiem…all designed to help listeners and participants grow in their relationship to God.
When not at the church, Ed is an avid gardener, enjoys chasing his dogs and cats, and is a member of the six time national triathlon champion club, the Columbia Multisport Club. He is married to Deb Carr and two grown children, Ryan and Emily.
