Odyssey Chamber Music

The Odyssey Chamber Music Series premiered in 2004 as an outreach of the ministries of First Baptist Church of Columbia.  Under the leadership of Ed Rollins, Executive Director, and Ayako Tsuruta, Artistic Director, the series has claimed widespread recognition for its excellence in providing wonderful music to our community.

The series mission is to Glorify God while developing community through the arts.  While it focuses on classical chamber music, the series is diverse enough to provide a unique contribution to the cultural life of the church and the community.  Some seven to eight concerts each year are designed to highlight different styles and genres of music.  Composers have included Chopin and Crumb, Bach and Bartok, Mendelssohn and Messiaen, Piazzolla and Poulenc…artists have included numerous local musicians, the Esterhazy Quartet, the New Trio, the Columbia Handbell Ensemble, the UMC Trombone Choir and Bassoon Ensemble, and many more…this past year, the series featured the semi-finals for the widely acclaimed Plowman Chamber Music Competition.
